Walt Disney World

This is such a popular location for families that I thought I would share some tips for traveling there from our trip as well as encourage people to email me with their own tips for the parks.  When we went a few years back we stayed at the Dolphin and Swan which are Westin Hotels next to the Boardwalk.  Reasonably priced and in an excellent location.  We were able to boat to Epcot and MGM and bus to the Magic Kingdom and the Animal park.  We loved being near the Boardwalk because each night they had tons of street vendors out and you could see fireworks from there.

Tips We Learned:
1. Bring a rain poncho for everyone from the dollar store.  Some water rides drench you and if you are in the park they charge you $7.00 for one poncho.

2.  Rent a stroller if you have any kids under 10 years old.  It is great for holding drinks, food and also a place to sit and take a break.  Our ten year old rested in it several times and since it has a canopy it blocked the sun.  My younger child needed it.

3.  Bring granola bars and snacks with you to the parks if you can get them ahead of time or bring them to Florida in your luggage.  Food is super expensive and when you need a little something you will have it.

4.  There is fruit in the park but it is in only two spots we found in the Magic Kingdom.  The Toon Town area and near the haunted house area.  They may have expanded it since we were there, but you had to know where to find it.

5.  Check to see if there are special evening events at any parks.  We were able to buy tickets to an evening event at the Magic Kingdom.  We paid for it but it was incredible.  We had the park from 9-12 at night for only 20,000 people who paid instead of 200,000 or more.  We rode the rides a ton of times with no wait and got to watch the magic snow of Christmas since it was holiday time.  Worth every penny to have the low crowds and special events.
